literally

In "Lady Windemere's Fan," Oscar Wilde writes that, "Crying is the refuge of plain women but the ruin of pretty ones." Dammit...it's always been my true refuge.

The REAL question is... in the music video, why does he take his shirt off and start singing to his shoes? You're the artistic guru, let's hear your best shot.

I think that he, obviously, took his shirt off because he knows he's got the goods. Raw, borderline-male nakedness sells discs, Elisa. Second, he sings to his shoes because that's all he has left of the girl. He walked away. He'll have to live the rest of his life knowing that the steps he took away won over the risk for beauty. Damn shoes.

very deep! very insightful! props all around. well, aside from the male nakedness part. there has to be another reason he took off his hat, coat, shirt, and t-shirt. I totally buy the damn shoes part... but WHY take off all the other clothes as well?? Why take his ipod and his wallet out and lie them on the ground next to the shoes?? AAAGH, it doesn't make sense.

Elisa. When we take off our clothes, we are in one of our most vulnerable states. Maybe, since he's a musician, the iPod symbolizes passion and his wallet is money--both he's willing to lie down. Free your mind. I can't believe I'm talking about this so much.
